Monticello still buzzing over Trisha
Whenever
I travel through Monticello, my thoughts turn to a movie and a
song. The movie is "My Cousin Vinny." Parts of it were filmed
here in 1991. Even though there is some rough language in
places, it remains one of my favorite comedies. Marisa Tomei won
an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mona Lisa
Vito. Monticello ought to at least get an assist on the play.
Some of Tomei's best lines came during the scenes shot at the
Jasper County Courthouse. The song I hear has nothing to do with
the movie. Whenever I reach the Monticello city limits, Trisha
Yearwood's beautiful voice usually fills my ears. It has been a
long time since cousin Vinny has been spotted in these parts.
However, the native daughter's roots run deep. Trisha has never
forgotten her hometown. She regularly returns to the nest to
visit her parents, Jack and Gwen Yearwood. They are
salt-of-the-earth folks.

The Gift Of Hearing
Trisha
Yearwood traveled along with William Austin, head of the Starkey
Hearing Foundation, and a dozen volunteers (including doctors
and audiologists) to give the gift of hearing to over 1000
underprivileged children in Guadalajara and Marida , Mexico.
"I can't imagine not being able to hear music," says Yearwood.
"When you see these people hear for the first time, especially
the children, and you see their faces light up and smile; it's a
real blessing to be a part of this."
"Nothing compares to watching a child's reaction when he or she
is able to hear for the first time," says Austin. "It's like you
turned on a light switch and now they are part of our world."
The Starkey Hearing Foundation, started in 1973, has donated
more than 120,000 hearing aids to people who cannot afford them.
Trisha will be performing for the organization August 20th.

Trisha Visits After Midnight
Trisha recently stopped by
to visit Blair Garner and chat. Trisha, who remains one
of the most genuine Country artists despite her celebrity, says
she owes it to her parents. "If I'm nice at all, it's because of
my mom and dad," Trisha told Blair Garner earlier this morning
on After MidNite. They're the coolest. They should have their
own show. They're the celebrities." Trisha says that one of the
most important lessons she's learned from her parents is a good
sense of what's important. "I'm not saying there haven't been
times in my life when I've forgotten what's important, but I
know, because of how I was raised, what is. I always said I
don't always do the right thing, but I know what the right thing
is because of them. They're just very grounding. When people ask
my parents, 'How's your famous daughter,' they ask, 'Which one?'
They're just good folks."

Fans Brave Nashville Rain For Trisha!
The
most dedicated country fans in the world also proved to be the
wettest Saturday night (June 11) in Nashville as persistent rain
soaked thousands of people attending the CMA Music Festival's
outdoor show at the Coliseum.
The weather served as a dramatic backdrop during Trisha
Yearwood's seven-song set. During a big finish for "Wrong Side
of Memphis," she took a breath as the pounding rain turned into
a drum roll for the last word of the line, "Full tank of gas and
a '69 Tempest, taking me to that Nashville ... siiiiiign."

Billboard Has Missed Trisha Yearwood
Country
Music has missed Trisha Yearwood and this gorgeous ballad
illustrates why. After a hiatus from the spotlight, the Georgia
native is back with one of the best singles of her career. It's
a poignant look at young love and the way the year's can wash
over us, but certain emotions never fade. The lyric is
picturesque and perfectly suited to Yearwood's warm, supple
voice. Garth Fundis deft production leans on Yearwood's voice
and an aching steel guitar. This welcome return of one of
country's most talented singers serves as the first taste of her
September album "Jasper County".
