Bass Hall said yes, and fans should say thank youBy ERIN WHITE

FORT WORTH -- Trisha Yearwood got to play Bass Hall because, well, she begged.
"Not to drop names or anything, but I came here with my husband," the singer, who is married to music superstar Garth Brooks, told the crowd. "I just loved the place, so I called and called and said, 'Can I play here? '"
Any fan in the audience Monday night was certainly pleased that Bass Hall brass said yes. The singer was in top form and demonstrated why she's had 15 years of chart toppers.
Yearwood moved easily through a mix of singles from her forthcoming album, scheduled for release in November, and radio-tested fan favorites like Thinkin' About You, The Song Remembers When and, of course, She's in Love with the Boy.
She charmed the audience, too, with anecdotes about life in Nashville and by poking fun at herself.
"I was really proud of my new jeans until one of the crew members said, 'I know you said your kids just started doing the laundry. Was there a bleaching accident?'" she said, making a face while the crowd laughed.
Although she kept the fans entertained between songs, her outstanding voice made the show great.
Yearwood, long respected as an interpretive singer, can imbue a lyric with an extraordinary amount of emotion. On a new single, Cowboys Are My Weakness, her voice flirted with the audience and hinted at both an apology for and an acceptance of an understandable Achilles' heel.
During Wrong Side of Memphis and Pistol, rousing, heck-raising tunes, she made her voice rough and hard, with just a touch of vulnerability.
She was at her best when she sang about heartache.
During Walkaway Joe and Georgia Rain, Yearwood wrapped her voice around longing and regret so elegantly and effortlessly that a listener could almost forgive all the country starlets who've mistakenly thought they could handle singing one of Yearwood's songs.
