I have a question about "How Do I live"..... My question is did Trisha Yearwood do that song first and than LeAnn Rimes redid it....Or did LeAnn do it first and Trisha redid it? I love both versions but I was just wondering who did it first.

LeAnn sang it first for the movie ConAir, but for whatever reason the producers didn't think LeAnn's version fit. Trisha was then called, but she didn't know LeAnn had already recorded it. Trisha's version was used for the movie. Then (unbeknownst to Trish once again) they released their singles at the same time. Country radio flocked to Trisha's version (because A. It's Trisha and B. It's better), and LeAnn's version launched her career on the pop charts. LeAnn actually did very well commercially, but Trisha won the Grammy...because, I mean, it's better. Trisha later said there is no one she wanted to compete with less than LeAnn because she was selling so well at the time. But you know Trisha- always classy. cool.gif

Thanks for letting me know...I really like both but Trisha's is my favorite.

The media blew all that way out of proportion and made it out to be this big catfight between them. The thing about it was, LeAnn made a big deal about how she was betrayed, but she never said that Trisha betrayed her. She placed all that blame on the producers of Con Air. It worked out for both of them in the end. And though I do love me some LeAnn Rimes, I agree that Trisha's version was MUCH better. It was more convincing.

Who knows what the exact reason was, but I remember reading that the powers that be on the film didn't think that Miss Rimes's version conveyed the depth or maturity of such a passoinate love song. I guess they found Trisha's version more believable, I know I did. Yes, I think the "feud" may have been something that was blown way out of proportion-- guess all that helped promote the film too.

P.S. Wasn't it also the only song that Trisha has a solo Grammy for?

Yea its the only solo grammy for Trisha. 2 of her duets "In Anothers Eyes" w/Garth and "I Fall To Peices" w/Aarron Neville won her the other 2.

Trisha's single sold all 300,000 copies released by MCA. I dont know if thats true but I have read in it multiple sources. They said MCA didnt want to release more because it may hurt the album sales. The album Songbook sold 4 million which is equal to the album "You Light Up My Light" by LeAnn. So commerically LeAnn had the bigger hit but I think Trisha's version gave her more success in her career and took it to a whole new level.

I thought Leann recorded it first, but not for the movie.Trisha was asked to record it for Con-Air,and both women were nominated for grammy's,for the same song,in the same year."How Do I Live " was that song.

LeAnn did record it first, and she recorded it for Con Air. Like the others said, the producers decided not to go with her version. Trisha and the band reportedly used LeAnn's original cut of the song to learn it before they recorded Trisha's version.

LeAnn was only 15 or so at the time and they just didnt feel it was sincere coming from a girl her age. I did hear Trisha used her version for the demo and thankfully did a full 360

It was also the first time in history 2 artists were nominated for the same song in the same category.

...and lets just say the better version won

I remember reading that after the producer of ConAir heard LeAnn's version of How Do I Live, they were not happy with it and asked LeAnn to re-record it, but she refused. Only after she refused did they ask Trisha to record it and as Jeremy stated, she listened to LeAnn's version as she didn't have a lot of time to get her recording done in time for the movie's release.

I also seem to recall that Trisha was told LeAnn's version would not be released, but Mike Curb at Curb Records (LeAnn's label) didn't like the movie producer NOT using LeAnn's version, so he decided to release it to pop radio and of the course the rest is history.

I also recall that at the Grammy's LeAnn Rimes pitched a fit backstage when she didn't win the grammy. Oh well, as much as I like LeAnn's music (I think she has a beautiful voice), she definitely did not deserve the grammy for that song.

LeAnn was young that but it was still no reason to pitch a fit...She kind had a fit when Carrie Underwood won all her awards last year saying Carrie did not deserve all the awards she has gotten...Now I agree that Carrie has won way too much but there was no reason to make comments like that or pitch a fit over "how Do I live"...LeAnn still is doing well 11 years later so she should just relax...

I agree Trisha is the one who deserved that Grammy I saw Trisha's video for "how Do I live" at CMT it is great lots of emotion.
