Garth's Energy Rubs Off on Trisha

September 20, 2007 — Known mostly for her ballads, Trisha Yearwood kicked it up a notch with her latest single, "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love," and she credits her husband, Garth Brooks, for her willingness to let her hair down a bit.

"Garth is such a larger-than-life performer and I'm very low key," she tells Dial-Global. "So when I toured with him in '98 — it was the first time we actually did stuff together onstage — I would go walk up on that huge, monster stage and here would be this beast — 'cause he just turns into a different guy out there. And I felt like, 'Okay, I just gotta hold my own here.'"

Trisha says it was hard for her to get up to Garth's energy level, but she learned to adapt. "Maybe that's why many people have commented, 'This sounds different. This sounds like it's got a lot of energy.' I think that if he has an influence on me, that that might be it. He's always encouraged me to just get in there and let it rip, and I think we did that."

Do you guys consider this a new side? Its not as common as the sweet loving ballad side but Trisha does have her rockers
Thats What I Like About You
Powerful Thing
Pistol
You Say You Will(not as high up there in tempo)
Ok so I guess she hasnt released that many. But it is my favorite side and I think she is one of the highest energy women when it comes to songs like Pistol and HH&POL I dont think many other women in country can do what she does to those songs....if any

I agree this isn't a totally new side for her but it isn't what she is known the best for and I am thrilled that with a new label they took a risk and rather than going with a terrific ballad like she is known for they opted for this. It is so high energy and you just can't help but feel good listening to it and feeling the fun they were having. It's a more in your face and I'm back song and I love it! Like Trisha, I absolutely love the wallow on the ground sad songs, but sometimes you gotta have some fun! Those that have just heard her on the radio haven't heard this side that often and certainly not for quite a while so to a lot of people it is new. I'm glad that it has been getting such a great reception!

While Trisha's always been able to sing anything and everything she wants brilliantly, I think she's "come into her own" by being with Garth, and that's also reflected in her music, and the way she sings.

So while she's had upbeat songs before, I think she's maybe more comfortable singing them onstage, expressing herself, things like that. Picking what she wants for an album, wearing what she wants, not going for the safe bet. In that sense, I do think that Garth has been tremendous for her (forget how much they adore each other), to help her believe in herself even more--which also gets reflected in her music. smile.gif
