Just curious I was going to start posting country music trivia questions if anyone wants to play along just answer!
First Question
After she scored her first top 40 hit in 1963 with "Let Me Off at the Corner" this country icon had to wait 14 years before her first Billboard Number 1. Which Artist is it?
Erik
Oct 23 2007, 08:28 PM
Just an educated guess here, but I think you're talking about Dottie West.
If so, then...
Linda Ronstadt's first major country hit (it reached #20 in April 1974) was a remake of a song first done by Wanda Jackson in 1957. What was this song's title?

I will wait to see if I am correct before I post another question
Erik

Yes, it was "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" indeed.

This artist was released from her MCA contract due to the competition she had with powerhouses Reba McEntire,Wynonna Judd and Trisha Yearwood.
Erik
Oct 24 2007, 09:23 PM
I think it was Patty Loveless, but I'm not sure.
Next one...
The late Buck Owens incurred the wrath of the country music establishment in 1964 by publicly supporting this Liverpool combo. Name the combo.

...three hit singles? ("Thinkin' 'Bout You"; "XXXs and OOOs"; "On A Bus To St. Cloud")

Here's a good one:
Flatt and Scruggs' 1948 classic "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" got a new lease on life two decades later by being used in what (notorious) 1960s film classic?

Well it did have 3 top 10 hits (XXX's and OOO's, Thinkin About You, and Wanna Go Too Far) but I was thinking it was the only Trisha album to spawn 2 Billboard #1's.
And as for your question Erik I am going with "Bonnie and Clyde"

In a brief career in the late 80's this woman scored 4 Billboard number 1's including a duet with Alabama. And garnered 6 CMA nominations including 2 wins, one for female vocalist of the year and Song of the Year.
Erik
Nov 2 2007, 03:34 PM
I think we're talking about K.D. Lang (her anti-meat stance did her in in Nashville)
Although now considered a country classic, "Ruby (Don't Take Your Love To Town)" actually only reached #39 on the country chart for this male legend and his group in 1969 (#6 pop). Who are we talking about here?

If I read the question right it was Kenny Rogers and the First Edition correct?
this one is too easy for you Erik but I am doing it anyway, The hit "Somewhere Out There" was featured in what animated film? And name the main character.
Erik
Nov 2 2007, 07:29 PM
Yes--in response to my last question, it was indeed Kenny Rogers and the First Edition
To your last one--the film was AN AMERICAN TAIL, and the lead character was named Fievel Mousekewitz.
One of Charlie (The Devil Went Down To Georgia) Daniels' earliest credits was appearing as a session musician on a landmark 1969 C&W-rock album recorded in Nashville by a great modern folk legend. Name the artist and the album title.
wmdude102086

well modern folk legend I am going to guess Bob Dylan and the album he released that year was Nashville Skyline????
Erik

Yes indeed, it was Dylan's Nashville Skyline.

Shows you how much I know.

As to my question regarding Dolly, Linda, and Emmylou, all three were up for Best Female Country Vocalist at the Grammys in 1975. Dolly was nominated for "The Bargain Store"; Emmy for "If I Could Only Win Your Love." Linda was the one who walked off with the award for "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You."

Would that be the one, the only, King of Rock and Roll......... Elvis Presley!!!
When he was first starting out, Clint Black was a person he thought his career would never surpass.
Erik
Dec 29 2007, 09:57 PM
Yes, it was indeed Elvis ("Heartbreak Hotel"; 'Don't Be Cruel"; "Hound Dog"; "All Shook Up; "Jailhouse Rock")
As for your question, I'm guessing it would be the Garthmeister.

This particular singer/songwriter wrote some of Elvis' best later-day material, such as "Memories", "In The Ghetto", and "Don't Cry Daddy', later achieving huge success as a performer. Name him.
