Let me first say that this was an AMAZING show - she didn't do "There Goes My Baby," but there were other moments that justified it.

Danielle Peck was the opening act. I was only familiar with two of her songs, but I was actually really impressed with her. She writes really "real" lyrics and has a sense of humor to go along with them.

When Trisha took the stage, the crowd ERUPTED into applause. She opened with "Heaven, Heartache and The Power of Love," then launched directly into "XXX's and OOO'S." After that, she thanked the audience for the warm welcome and said that wished she could take us everywhere with her!

Throughout the evening she was her normal, witty self. Someone asked "Where's Garth?" She said "Thanks for asking - no one EVER asks about him!" She said he was in Kansas City practicing because "he needs to practice and I don't!" - Trisha said jokingly not to post that on the internet....well, that's my payback for the lack of "There Goes My Baby!"

She also took a camera from someone in the first few rows and took a self-picture for that person. I thought that was really cool because I have never seen an artist do that before. She recevied a lot of gifts - including a pillow that had the Fox Theatre logo on it. She asked if it was stolen, then said "I've always loved the Fox and now I have an artifact! If it IS stolen, oh well - it's mine now!"

She sang two other songs from the new album - "Cowboys Are My Weakness" and "They Call It Falling For A Reason," which were both really well received. She mentioned at one point that the first time she came to the Fox, it was in 1980 to see Linda Ronstadt. She said she sat in the very back row of the upper section and that it was a love/hate experience - she said she loved seeing Linda but hated the fact that she was not the one on stage singing. She then said "well, I'm the one on stage now!"

She did a really nice acoustic version of "Walkaway Joe, " with just Johnny on the guitar. To me, it was a million times better than the studio version. That one recevied a good bit of applause as well.

Trisha also did a beautiful tribute to Porter Wagoner. She said he was a big fan of hers and that she believes he had a lot to do with her Grand Ole Opry induction. She said that whenever she played the Opry he would come just to see her and that he always wanted her to "sing the one that brung ya!" She then performed "She's In Love With The Boy" and dedicated it to him.

Of course, people stated shouting requests at one point. In the midst of this, Trisha revealed that her jeans were a bit too large and kept trying to fall down. Some guy in the crowd yelled "MINI SKIRT!!!" Trisha said "We don't know that one!" A few more requests were shouted out, until someone yelled "Georgia Rain!" People throughout the audience picked up on this, and soon half the crowd was yelling "Georgia Rain!" She performed the song, beautifully - and received huge applause for it.

Toward the end of the show, she referenced seeing Linda there years before and said "While I'm here, I just want to try something." She then started singing "Blue Bayou" acappella. She apparently started in a higher key than she should have, but she sang a full verse and chorus. She thought she did horrible in the high part of the chorus, but it sounded great from where I was. She then did "Perfect Love," which she said was one of three happy songs that she has in her catalog. After that, she said "That was supposed to be my last song, but I'm not leaving until I get this right!" She then tried "Blue Bayou" in a lower key, from the beginning. This time she had it - and halfway through the first verse, then entire band jumped in. She performed the enitre song and got a HUGE standing ovation afterward.

She left the stage, but the audience stayed put. She came back out and did an encore, which earned her another standing ovation. It was really one of the best oncerts I have been to, and my friend that tagged along with me has been recruited as a Trisha fan! She said to me on the way home "She was really amazing - I had no idea she was THAT good. I had a GREAT time!"

And let me also say this: Trisha has a REALLY AWESOME drummer now!

This was the set list:

1. Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love
2. XXX's and OOO's (An American Girl)
3. The Song Remembers When
4. They Call It Falling For A Reason

I've thought for years that she should do "Blue Bayou". I have no doubt she performed it flawlessly. And, one of these days I will be able to hear her do it. Also, great review.

Wow, what can I say - I've seen Trisha at the Fox three times now. Once sitting in the middle section, once several rows behind the PIT area and last night on the front row. All I can say is - it just doesn't get any better than that!

This was by far the BEST Trisha concert I've ever seen - she was incredible!

I loved her version of Blue Bayou - even though unrehearsed, it was just beautiful. I just don't believe there is a song out there that Trisha can't sing!

Jeremy thanks for the great recap and the set list.

While I know Trisha's show in KC will be great too (and believe me I'm really looking forward to it), I'm not sure last night's performance will ever be topped!! It was and will forever be a night to remember!

Thanks very much for the recap! I am going to print it and save it. I was there last night and it was just wonderful! It was my first time seeing Trisha live in concert and I had the best time! I would never have remembered all the wonderful details! We stayed at the Georgian Terrace across the street from the Fox and drove home this morning. Trisha has such a gorgeous voice! I already knew this but live it just blows you away! I had heard her sense of humor on different radio interviews but live she is just hilarious! My husband and I were just laughing! Thank You Trisha for such a Wonderful evening!

You're all very welcome! This may sound odd, but I usually jot down notes about what happens in these concerts so the people who weren't able to attend will get at least a bit of the experience!

And Kelsey - glad you got the humor in that! laugh.gif

What a great review - I was also there and this was definatley my best Trisha concert! It was really great to see her play for the home crowd and it was wonderful to see her so happy and funny!! She must be in a really great place now! And, of course, her voice was as beautiful as ever. biggrin.gif

Loved hearing some new songs - especially 'They Call It Falling For A Reason' - what a rocker! The highlights for me were her spontaneous magical rendition of 'Blue Bayou' and the acoustic version of 'Walkaway Joe' she did with Johnny - it was just great! biggrin.gif

I had a fantastic time seeing Trisha again and now I'm heading to Kansas City for the Wednesday show with Garth - can't wait!!! smile.gif

I was at the concert at the FOX in Atlanta last night, WOW; what a show. Trisha sounded wonderful, she was funny, personable, warm and very interactive with the audiance. It was such a thrill to see her so comfortable and sounding better than ever! I can't wait for the new release on 11/13 and hope she records some of Linda's songs and "Over the Rainbow" I loved it.

I'd be willing to bet that if Linda heard about this, she would probably have said something along the lines of "'Attagirl!", to honor Trisha's dedication to just trying to do this difficult song right.

Thanks for the reviews! Loved reading it! Sounded like a great concert! Don't you just love converting new Trisha fans??? I think you just HAVE to see her in person to really hear how amazing she is! Although, I have to admit - I was hooked way before I ever got to see her in concert!

Thanks again for the review, it was awesome to read it! Sure do hope to see her sometime next year!!!! Until them - keep those reviews coming . . . smile.gif

Great review! I was there to the extreme right in the second row pit and was scared to death that I was going to accidentally cause an incident. While an elderly woman on the opposite side of the stage gave Trisha flowers, I quietly placed a book for her on the stage next to the sound cables in front of me, not thinking that Trisha would perform that far over on the stage. The next thing I knew she walked around the book in very high heels and sang in the corner of the stage to my right. Fortunately, she picked up the book during an instrumental break and acknowledged the gift, recognizing me from a couple of M&G's. I was sure that she was going to trip over that darn thing.

I'm sure you're aware of this. I don't know how close Torrington, Conn. is to you, but Trisha will be there in March and tickets go on presale tomorrow. smile.gif

You're all very welcome - I always try to do really in-depth concert reviews, so I'm glad y'all appreciate it!

I forgot to mention one thing, though. I know a lot of us wanted this to happen and it never did...apparently we were not alone in that feeling. Before she performed "Pistol," Trisha said that she wanted to release that song as a single from "Jasper County," but it never got the chance.

I just thought I'd throw that in there because I know most of us were dumbfounded at MCA's decisions with that album - but Trisha herself was thinking along the same lines as we were!
robynbum
For anyone that was there would it be possible for me to get a copy of a good close up picture of Trisha from you? Out of all the pictures that I took only two turned out really good but neither were close ups. I scrapbook and am planning my layout but it really needs a close up picture to be good. I have to have a scrapbook page for my first Trisha concert!

Thanks,
Robin
