I thought it would be cool if we could let everyone know how new cd's are so we know whether or not we should buy them.

Recently I bought:
"Infinity on High" - Fall Out Boy
This CD is actually really good...I was very impressed with the 1st single "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race"...I really didn't care for their last CD. Some of the titles of the songs are just plain stupid...and some of the lyrics just don't make sense...but for the most part the music is what saves this CD and makes it worth the $15.00 bucks to buy it!

'Enjoy The Ride" - Sugarland
I was an instant fan of theirs with their debut CD and I thought they couldn't make a better one...well SURPRISE! they sure did make a better one...I have been listening to this CD non-stop! The standout track for me is "Stay" it truly showcases the duos best asset which is Jennifer's beautiful voice. Every song is catchy and could be a single...definitely worth the money to get it!

That's all I have for now...if I get more new ones I will let y'all know how they are...Thanks!

I want to get Sugarland's new one, but can't afford it, I like them though--a lot! I'm looking foward to Martina's new one on April 3rd too!

Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Calling: Pure poetry!!!

Gary Allan also has a Greatest Hits out, and he's so under-rated. smile.gif

My latest ones:

ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE--Elvis Presley: One of the great live albums of any kind, this one was taken from that live satellite broadcast from Hawaii on January 14, 1973 (though Americans didn't see it until April of that year). It is Elvis at his latter-day best; and while his Vegas-inspired show was as bombastic as ever, he still showed how much he still had in him. Besides the slew of stuff from the 1950s that made him a household institution, he also does a sizzling version of James Taylor's "Steamroller Blues." But the high point of the album for me is one of his latter-day signature selections, namely "An American Trilogy", an adaptation by songwriter Mickey Newbury of two Civil War anthems ("Dixie"; "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic") and an African-American spiritual ("All My Trials"). Elvis' vocal power at the climax puts the post-9/11 bromides of Toby Keith and Darryl Worley to shame because the King was one who had a great appreciation for the heart, soul, and soil of America's rich musical heritage and consistently meant it. A tremendous album--and also, an all-too-sad reminder of the fact that he died thirty years ago this year.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY--original soundtrack: One of the great motion picture scores of all time is this score that recent honorary Oscar winner Ennio Morricone composed for his good friend Sergio Leone's 1967 spaghetti western classic. Like the film it is attached to, the score itself is intense, extreme, and often flamboyant. There's no mistaking the main title music, but also of note are the two last tracks, "The Ecstasy Of Gold", and "Trio" (both of which are featured near the sweat-inducing climax of this, the definitive film of its often misunderstood genre).

Hey Erik ~ Excellent purchase on Elvis' Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite....... it is truly awesome. I have the video and oh my......... priceless, absolutely, truly amazing.

We're going back to Graceland this year for his 30th anniversary of his death. Doesn't seem possible. I listen to Elvis on channel 13 on my Sirius satellite radio - and I'm just in awe of the guy. No, he was by no means a saint, but what he did for music, his fans - well, you know I could go on and on about him. I'm in search now of his original Moody Blue album - I had it before - but of course after you play an album so many times...... I'll have to search for awhile i'm sure.....

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly ~ Truly a classic.......

Very cool purchases!!! biggrin.gif

I haven't bought any new cd's in quite a while. I think the last one "I" bought was the soundtrack to Broken Bridges with Toby Keith. And I love that cd! But I'll have to check out some of the ones you guys have talked about!

the last cd I bought was Sunny Sweeney's debut cd "Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame" This is a great COUNTRY cd!! Her voice is pure country. She kinda takes it back to Hank Sr day's. I highly reccomed this for people who love solid country. If you want to hear some of the songs. Check out her myspage page!

Chris Young.

He was at the Opry this weekend, and after hearing him sing Keith Whitley I'm sold. smile.gif I hadn't been sure about buying the album before, but I really like the second single, and he was *amazing* at Broadway Meets Country. Really nice guy, too. I hope he does well. smile.gif

Gee, I bought a slew of CDs recently:

Mary Chapin Carpenter's THE CALLING. GET THIS ONE!!!!!

Jude Johnstone's ON A GOOD DAY & ...forgot the other title. Curious about the author of HEARTS IN ARMOR. Her version has a heavy celtic feel. Her voice is a bit on the raspy side, more Bonnie Raitt than Trisha. Always interesting to hear the songwriter's recording.

Joshua Payne and the Everett Buchanon's SAME SHOE SECOND VERSE. I really love his voice. I think Joshua and Trisha would be great duet partners. They both have wide expressive ranges while packing a set of killer pipes. (Did I just type 'killer'?) I have to admit, I was disappointed with the songs. Definitely more experimental than his debut.

Nora Jones' NOT TOO LATE. Again LOVE her voice. She definitely tilted towardartsy songs. Yet, they still hold their charm.

"Jasper County"-Trisha Yearwood-being a fan this isn't my favorite cd she has made but I love it my favorites are "Pistol","Who invented the wheel","Standing out in a Crowd","Try me",and "Georgia Rain"(though by time I got the Cd radio stations and CMT had done burned me out on "Georgia Rain")
I think radio and MCA (not to mention CMT) really had made a big to-do about "Georgia Rain" because of Garth being on as a harmony singer. It was a big hit, of course. But it seems to me that they reinforced the (false) impression that Trisha only got to where she is today because of Garth because. to hear country radio, whenever they talked about Trisha on the air, it was almost never about Jasper County, but that one single and her relationship and subsequent marriage to Garth. It got to be....well, "tacky" is as kind a word as I can use on this board to describe it.

"Taking the long way"-the Dixie chicks-as being a fan all I can say about this one is the Dixie chicks made an awsome comeback this is my favorite cd they have made absolutly awsome my favorites are-"Not ready to make nice","Taking the Long way","Easy Silence",Lullaby","Lubbock or Leave it",and "So Hard"

For me, this is about as close to a true country-rock album as has been made by anybody in a very long time; and by that, I don't mean a typical Music Row-type of thing, but one that, modern production values and the very direct song content aside, harkens back to the Los Angeles country-rock movement of the 1960s and 1970s. There has always been that element to the Chicks since Natalie came onboard in 1995, but it is particularly prominent here on Taking The Long Way (IMHO).

I don't think Georgia Rain was that big of a hit, actually. Not even Garth could do that.

Trisha wanted to record this song, and asked for the changes to the song, because it reminded her of "home". Adding Garth to the mix made the song more intimate for her, more natural. Just my opinion.

All the talk of Garth in relation to the song couldn't be avoided, considering they had just gotten engaged, and she'd been living in OK for the past however many years. It was a way for the promoters to ask about him.

I write CD reviews for an all genres rock website, we get a lot of stuff from decidedly non rock artists. I happen to be a country fan as well, so I usually get the country CDs that come in. If you are interested, here's my review of Enjoy The Ride.

Interesting review; thanks. smile.gif

BTW, if anyone's interested, Crowded House is including their version of Silent House on their upcoming album (Neil Finn co-wrote the single with the Chicks). biggrin.gif

Oh--and Miranda just plain rocks. smile.gif

My last two CDs:

WEST--Lucinda Williams: The Louisiana-born singer/songwriter that Time magazine recently called America's greatest living songwriter invests a lot of herself on this typically sparse album, which, like Rosanne Cash's last two albums, is rooted in her own personal tragedies, and rooted in the folk, blues, and rock aspects of the Americana genre. As with Lucinda's other albums, you have to appreciate the heavy drawl of her voice to really get into it. But she is a talent worth not ignoring (IMHO).

THE STORY--Brandi Carlile: The second album from Brandi, after her impressive and folky 2006 self-titled debut album. A native of northwest Washington state, Brandi's musical roots are in the acoustic layerings of vintage Linda and Emmylou and the torch musings of Patsy Cline at the peak of her perfection. Her songs are of the Adult Alternative kind, though they are also tinged with a bit of country-and-western (though no country instrumentation is on this album).

I just bought Chris Daughtry's cd 'Daughtry'. For those who don't know, he was on Idol last year.

This is an awesome cd. It's been compared to Nickelback to which I would agree. My favorite song is 'Home'
