SUPERSTAR TRISHA YEARWOOD SIGNS EXCLUSIVE RECORDING CONTRACT WITH BIG MACHINE RECORDS

Nashville, TN -- Recording artist Trisha Yearwood, together with Scott Borchetta, President & CEO of Big Machine Records, announced today that after 16 years with MCA Records, Yearwood is leaving the label to join Borchetta at Big Machine Records. It is only fitting that one of the most majestic voices in Music City would join forces with the hottest new label on Music Row.

This move is far from random, as the relationship between Yearwood & Borchetta is long and solid. The two first worked together in the late ‘80s when Borchetta was a member of the promo staff at the now defunct MTM Records (yes, that stands for Mary Tyler Moore) in Nashville. Trisha had recently graduated from Belmont University and was working as the label's receptionist, while singing demos on the side.

In 1990, Trisha’s talents were brought to the attention of executives at MCA Records, where Borchetta was in charge of radio promotion. Together, they built a track record that includes: nine #1 hits; 20 top-10 hits and an impressive list of Gold & Platinum certifications totally in excess of 10 million records sold.

“I've had a long, successful relationship with Scott Borchetta, and I've watched with pride as he's taken Big Machine Records from a brand new company to an extremely successful record label in less than two years. I'm excited about starting this next chapter in my career with Scott and Big Machine,” says Yearwood.

“Today is about Trisha Yearwood’s future. Her amazing talent and accomplishments speak for themselves. To know that I have the opportunity to provide the arena for her career to go to the next level has me--and the Big Machine staff--incredibly excited,” comments Borchetta.

It is no secret that the business model for the music industry is changing rapidly. Borchetta's Big Machine is on the cutting edge of those changes, proving in less than two years that an independent label can make serious inroads in this business. The addition of Yearwood to the label's roster will help to solidify the label's continued success.

Yearwood’s first studio record since 2005 will be released on Big Machine Records in early 2008.

Trisha Yearwood Signs New Deal

May 10, 2007 — Trisha Yearwood announced today that after 16 years with MCA Records, she's leaving the label to sign with Big Machine Records, home to artists including Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram.

The relationship between Trisha and Big Machine President/CEO, Scott Borchetta, is long and solid. The two first worked together in the late '80s when Borchetta was a member of the promo staff at the now defunct MTM Records in Nashville. Trisha had recently graduated from Belmont University and was working as the label's receptionist, while singing demos on the side.

"I've had a long, successful relationship with Scott Borchetta," said Trisha, "and I've watched with pride as he's taken Big Machine Records from a brand new company to an extremely successful record label in less than two years. I'm excited about starting this next chapter in my career with Scott and Big Machine," she says.

"Today is about Trisha Yearwood's future," added Borchetta. "Her amazing talent and accomplishments speak for themselves. To know that I have the opportunity to provide the arena for her career to go to the next level has me--and the Big Machine staff--incredibly excited.

At today's press conference, Trisha said she's listening for songs for her first record with Big Machine. The new CD is expected in early 2008.

Thanks for the article links. How adorable and happy does Trisha look in her pink Titans jersey?! laugh.gif I am just so darn happy for her to now be on a label that loves her and respects her and will back her 200 percent. Can't wait to see what will happen as a result. I am predicting huge things to come. A very exciting time in her career to be sure. Congrats Trisha!

I absolutely LOVE this quote from the CMT article:

"Today's a celebration and a projection of what Trisha and Big Machine are going to do," Borchetta said. "Trisha Yearwood is a terrific artistic brand. ... Today, she moves to the front of the class." (The clear implication in Borchetta's last remark was that the singer had been neglected in her later years at MCA.)

Less than two years after opening, independent label Big Machine Records has signed country music star Trisha Yearwood to its roster, its biggest name yet.

Yearwood joined Big Machine President and CEO Scott Borchetta in announcing the news at an event on Thursday at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

"It's a big day for Big Machine Records," Borchetta said. "Today is very much about the future. We're not celebrating what Trisha has done, but this is a celebration of what she will do. We have the advantage of being a small, very focused laser beam company, and artistic integrity is still very much intact. Today Trisha Yearwood no longer has to wait in line."

Yearwood's contract with MCA Records, where she spent 16 years, was fulfilled with her 2005 release Jasper County although the label still plans to release a greatest hits package. Her first record for Big Machine will release in 2008.

After having discussions with major labels in town, Yearwood went with Borchetta's independent, home to artists including Taylor Swift, Jack Ingram, Jimmy Wayne and Danielle Peck.

"We're fortunate she chose us. As far as bets I could go and make today, she's the best bet," Borchetta said.

Yearwood and Borchetta, who have known each other for almost 20 years, wracked up nine No. 1 hits including "She's in Love with the Boy," 20 top 10 hits and sold more than 10 million records in their work together at MCA Records.

Borchetta was a member of the promotional staff at MTM Records where Yearwood was a receptionist in the late 1980s. By 1990, Yearwood left her job and joined the client roster at MCA Records, where Borchetta had recently taken charge of radio promotion.

"Today is a great day because it feels like I'm coming home," said Yearwood, who lives in Oklahoma with husband Garth Brooks. "I'm old-school because I don't like things to change, but this is such a comfortable move. My first single went No. 1 because of that man. This is a great opportunity to work together, and we have all the same goals and the same vision. This is about loving the music and finding creative ways to make music with people who are excited about music."

Paul Allen, an associate professor in the recording industry department at Middle Tennessee State University who has written books about artist management and record label marketing, said he thought signing Yearwood was a brilliant business decision for the company.

"It's smart on Borchetta's part to bring her and her earning potential to his label," he said. "A lot of independent labels in Nashville try to recycle careers, and it's rare that that works. But, that's not what they are doing here. Borchetta is bringing Trisha back into his family. He's one of the most creative, bright guys in an executive position in Nashville, and he's very aggressive on behalf of his artists."

Borchetta said his label is different by design: The operation only has 14 employees, and Borchetta's approach to promotion is different.

"We're little dragon fighters powered by Red Bull," Borchetta said of his company. "One of the things I found frustrating at the major labels was that territorial aspect of this person does this or that, but I always put departments together that worked as a team effort. The best idea wins. We determine goals and go for them."

Yearwood said she plans to make the most of the new deal.

"The music always comes first," she said. "You have to have people who believe in it."
