Ok guys which recipes from Trisha,Mrs. Yearwood, and Beth's AMAZING book have tried so far??
wmdude102086
alrighty here we go!

Garlic Dill Pickles-I made 5 jars....I tried one. A little sweeter than I expected but good.

Sausage Hors d'Oeuvres-Amazing tasty lil morsels!

Garth's Pasta Salad-10 times outta 10 I will pick Trisha's work over Garth's lol, but the idea of hot pasta salad appeals to me like no other! I dont even really like pasta salad but this stuff was gooood!

Ribbion Meatloaf-Meat/bread combined! GENIUS!

Stuffed Pork Chops-Not as hard as I expected, I have made it twice so far!

Gwen's Fried Chicken-I have had this probally once a week since I have gotten this book, it is GOOD OO OOD! I am actually having it for dinner tomorrow lol

Trisha's Mashed Potatoes-Good your basic mashed potatoes, I live the skins on. Who dosent like mashed potatoes?

Daddy's Biscuits-This recipe turned out good for the Ribbion Meatloaf but I am not sure what I did wrong when I made them as a side. They turned out but tasted very....floury?

Blueberry Muffins-Mmm Hmmm Mmm! Amazing muffins! I make them in larger muffin pans and loved em.

German Choclate Cake-This turned out good but I wasnt crazy about the cake. Maybe its because I am not the biggest choclate cake fan. I love my vanilla

Iced Italian Cream Cake-This is now my birthday cake of choice! Only problem is I need to teach someone how to make it for me so its my birthday cake of choice!

Blackberry Cobbler-Good, I made the dough strips a little too thick but other than that it was good, except for the part where a caserole dish came crashing down on me from the top shelf....not cool....I am still finding bits of glass blink.gif

Chewy Choclate Chip Cookies-yummy

wow I didnt realize how many I made! Thanks Trisha for teaching this boy how to feed himself! Sure beats HotPockets and LeanCuisine!

Wow, you have been busy cooking.
I have made...
Baked Pork Chops with rice - very good and very easy
Pork Ribs - good, I have never baked ribs before or used a baking bag (which I still don't understand why it didn't melt, but then I still don't get how a phone works). Very tender

Wow you have been busy!

The only recipe I have tried so far is the Chicken Salad and I tell you it was wonderful! I'm getting ready to make a second batch as it was the easiest recipe ever and my husband just loved it. laugh.gif

LOL!!! I always thought that too....why dosent a baking bag melt in the oven?? And as for the phone, why hurt myself trying to think about it? unsure.gif

I'm making the chicken broccoli thingy tonight. smile.gif
robynbum
It has been a lot of fun to make these recipes! We have made:

Ribbon Meatloaf

Chicken Pot Pie- This is too die for!

Chicken Salad- Cindy, you are right! My husband loves this!

Pork Ribs- We made this for the first time this weekend! We had family in for the holiday and they loved it! At first, my sister was just going to write down a couple of the recipes but the day before they left to go home she said to me "Take me to the bookstore so I can buy Trisha's book!" LOL! Is that a good endorsement for Trisha?

This summer we will be trying more as things calm down.

I need to get on making that! Seems like everyone has tried it and loved it
sandis
Also bought ingredients for the black bean lasagna; am going to make that this week as well. smile.gif

The lasagna is excellent, and a great way to get protein whilst stretching one's meat budget.

The sausage meatballs, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, ribbon meatloaf and chicken brocoli are all really good as well.

Cory, if the biscuits seemed floury, you handled them too much. Like bread, less is more. Just pat them out gently and cut. I actually pat the dough into a rectangle and just cut them with a knife to make squared off biscuits. I then use them to make mini cheeseburgers.YUM!
shutrbug72
Made Garth's Pasta Salad as I also have a thing for melted cheese...

which is the reason last night I made the Mac & Cheese. YUM! I'm not really a sharp cheddar cheese fan but it was still quite yummy. Made it with wheat pasta and it was awesome. I never knew I could make a roux... well, one in a pan anyway. wink.gif It makes so much though, I'm going to have to give it to my interns!

I have also bought the ingredients for the black bean lasagna but haven't attempted it as of yet. I think I've had I've already had my pasta intake for the month in the other recipes, so I'll wait a bit. Looks amazing though!

And now I'm hungry again...

I haven't made anything yet, but hope to do so soon, possibly this weekend. (I've been REALLY busy, too busy to cook anything fancy the last couple of months. The majority of what I've been eating the last three weeks is frozen dinners.) wink.gif

Chewy Chocolate Chip cookies-A HUGE HIT!! Made this at least 3 times so far!
My sons made the Home Churned Ice Cream-another Big Hit!

There are still many things I want to try-the black bean Lasagna for one, and the fried chicken, and the egg bake...so many things to try! But so far, it's been great, by far the best cookbook I've got! THANK YOU TRISHA, GWEN AND BETH!! This Cookbook Rocks!
TYfan4ever
Wow! You've been busy cooking Tammy! LOL! You too Cory! I need to get on the ball and start trying more recipes. LOL! But as it is only my hubby and I, I don't cook a whole lot of major meals that take a lot of time for myself since my husband is such a pick eater. I'll just have to start cooking and eating left overs afterwards LMAO!

And Sandi, how did your chicken broccoli casserole turn out last night?
sandis
Good grief Tammy! Wanna come over and cook for us? tongue.gif

The chicken broccoli casserole was great--I even used light mayo and sour cream. Lots of left overs, though, since it's only two of us! Now I just need to remember to bring lunch into work...
Tammy
Leftovers? What are those???! Seriously though, I cook for 5! My 14 year old is already over 6 ft, and my 12 year old is almost as tall as me, and I'm 5'8! Needless to say, I have big eaters(including myself) we Love to eat! It's finding time-the great thing about ALOT of these recipes is that I can cook it and have it ready, and they can all eat when they can...it's great! I love eating together, but sometims-alot of times, that just can't happen!
Has anyone tried the black bean lasgna yet? I can't wait to try that!~

I opened the book a few times and said, okay I am going to cook tonight, but with deadlines looming I keep shying away. Anyone who wants to send a care package is welcome to smile.gif
TYfan4ever
Ok, this thread seriously makes me hungry LOL!! laugh.gif Last night I went through the book and made my list of the recipes I want to try first. Tonight I am making the chicken pot pie. I also can't wait to try the lasagna and Garth's pasta salad (I too am a warm pasta/melted cheese lover). The only problem with cooking all this for myself is I will have soo much leftovers. I'll have to share with my coworkers or friends when I do cook these meals. In fact, I might make the chicken broccoli casserole one day and bring lunch for everyone. tongue.gif

And like Tammy said: this cookbook totally rocks! Seriously the best ever. Thanks Trisha, Beth and Mrs. Gwen!! biggrin.gif
wmdude102086
In 24 hrs I need to have $453.00 for my books for school and in my checking currently I have less than half of that......so I wont be buying any ingredients anytime soon lol blink.gif
TYfan4ever
Just wanted to quickly jump on before bed to say the chicken pot pie turned out great! It is soo good!

And Cory, I remember those days all too well.
trixie7
Ok, someone really needs to try to make the fudge. I made it and it did not turn out. I don't know if it's me or the recipe. Probably me, lol. But if so, I need to know what I did wrong.

The only other thing I've tried is the chicken broccoli casserole. I love it! I want to make some more. I've bought everything for the macaroni and cheese, but I haven't made it yet.
sandis
Black bean lasagna is fantastic! biggrin.gif

All you need to add is some jalapeņo and other spicy stuff, and I bet it could be turned into a Mexican lasagna pretty quickly. wink.gif

As lasagna is my 2nd favorite dish, and since I love spicy stuff, I will have to try this sometime (both ways?). wink.gif

I know that everybody is different on how much heat and spices that they can stand and all that. But, not knowing how much/what size the lasagna is, I'm curious as to what quantities you might suggest on it? (And I'll add that I can eat hot stuff that most other people can't.)
TRISHAFAN4LIFE
I've made the chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, chicken broccoli casserole, baked chicken ~ We haven't had leftovers with this cookbook!!! biggrin.gif

Thank you Trisha, Gwen, and Beth!!! I love it!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

You could start off by buying the stewed or diced tomatoes in jalapeno seasoning, instead of just plain (or with oregano seasoning, etc), and see what happens. Maybe add some sliced jalapenos too, if that's not hot enough? smile.gif

Yes... 2 cans of Habanero Ro*Tel tomatoes. (The recipe calls for a 16 oz. can, and Ro*Tel cans are 10 oz. apiece.) wink.gif I may also try adding Mexicorn, like I do for my cornbread recipe. But then that brings another question: if you use the same size pan that Trisha does in the book, does the lasagna come up to the brim full on the pan, or is there still some space left to be able to add other stuff? In other words, would you be able to add a lot, or only add a little very sparingly? Thanks for the answer, by the way. smile.gif

I went to the grocery store with the intention of getting all of the ingredients to make the lasagna...wasn't until I got home that I remembered that I had forgetten the onion. tongue.gif
Zeppelinmonger
I made the lasagna. I'm in the 15-minute cooling period while I type this post, so I have not tasted yet, but it smells really good. I did slightly misjudge the size of my pan, so I had to go for two layers in one pan and one layer in another smaller square size pan. I think that the one layer one will still turn out okay. I didn't really have enough prepared sauce left to do it that way, so I substituted a little bit of Ragu spaghetti sauce to finish it. I can't wait to try it! smile.gif
Zeppelinmonger
I've tried it now...three helpings worth. wink.gif It's great. As good or better than most lasagnas that I've had in restaurants. And, it's the biggest mess that I've made in the kitchen in quite a while, but it was worth it! smile.gif

I didn't end up adding the Mexicorn like I had planned...the Habanero Ro*tel already had the green chiles and red peppers, so there was no point in adding it just for the corn. I may try that some other time though.

I didn't mention it in the last post, but...did anyone else end up having lasagna noodles left over? I ended up stacking the last pieces in the square pan anyway, but I think that even if I had had the room to put on the third layer that I still would have come up with some noodles left over.

I guess that's all the recipes that I can try for a little while...my freezer wasn't empty to begin with, and now it's completely full. tongue.gif
WCoastNightOwl
Today I made Betty's Cabbage Medley and the Easy Peach Cobbler. Both were very good and very easy. I should have made two cobblers cuz people came back for seconds and there weren't any. Next I want to try the Chicken Salad with Fruit and Chocolate Pound cake.
Salina
Wow, some of you have really been busy cooking........ perhaps I should stop by. tongue.gif I made the spaghetti and meat sauce for guests this past weekend and it was a big hit. The only change I made was I added mushrooms since I love them. I want to try the chicken and dumplins next. Has anyone tried them yet?
kissncry
Made Garth's Pasta Salad the other day. It was really good. I even salted the tomatoes individually like Trisha says he does. tongue.gif Next time I'll have to cut the recipe in half, cause it made a LOT of food.

Tried the Chicken Broccoli Casserole tonight. Hubby and I both loved it. Very, very good. I added a can of french fried onions to the chicken mixture and it was even better. Yummy!!

Want to try the Chocolate Pound Cake and Chicken Salad next. Probably going to try out the Pork Chops and Rice on hubby soon.

I made 1/2 of the asparagus recipe yesterday. I had to prepare the recipe and refrigerate it for an hour before cooking it. That worked fine. Also we used Ritz crackers instead of saltines because two of the eaters are small children who like cheese and Ritz. The 2 year old ate without any questions. The 5 year old asked if that was eggs in there under the cheese and thought that the asparagus was actually green beans. In other words, it is a yummy cheese sauce. I think I will make macaroni for them soon using that cheese sauce instead of the blue box. biggrin.gif

rolleyes.gif Have none of you tried the oatmeal cookies yet? Those things are so good!!!!! I told Trisha that I had to quit eating for 2 weeks after I made those! I can understand why Garth likes them so well! Don't make them if you live alone like I do! You will try to eat all of them! I called my brother and told him to come and get those cookies before I ate all of them! Try them, they are awesome!

Well seeing its summer time and its pool season I am trying to get into the shape I was in last season and sadly I really cant eat ANYTHING out of that cookbook lol. I really tried to find something and the only things I can really eat is the salads. I am looking at some long lonely months of salad, grilled chicken, and wheat pasta. But come October I am busting back out the cookbook!!
kissncry
Made the Chicken Salad last night. The recipe says "serves 10" and now I know why. I was very good though. Took half of it to the fire station and it was gone in a matter minutes. Hubby and the rest of the guys just loved it smile.gif One of the guys even asked for the recipe!

I'm pretty sure we need to discuss this lasagna and its effect on my life.

A-hem...

IT'S AMAZING!!!

Sorry, needed to let that out. I think I'll need to be letting a lot more out after the amount that I ate! Okay, so didn't need to go there.

But seriously - wow wow wow... I've got leftovers for like a month if anyone wants to stop by.

I've eaten more cheese since this cookbook came out than I did for the entirety of 2007. Um... and I'm LOVING IT! Oh, how I missed my cheese. smile.gif

And yeah... we had leftovers for weeks. I'm pretty sure next time I'm half-ing the recipe. smile.gif

I just got the cookbook yesterday! Can't wait to make some of the yummy stuff!! I think the macaroni and cheese will be first on my list.
Jasper
Hi, CanadianChick,

-good choice. That cheese sauce is very good on anything. My bunch even liked the asparagus with boiled eggs, and they don't like asparagus.! wink.gif

I'm thinking of ordering the cookbook, but what measuring system is used in it? Is it ounces and such? If so, I won't be buying it, because I don't use that system. I use kilograms and litres.

It's definitely in "American" measurements. smile.gif
kissncry
Most of the measurements seems to be in "cookbook lingo". That is, ingredients listed as a cup of this, a tablespoon of that. There are some recipes that call for things measured in ounces-- but they are mostly for things like canned ingredients. For example, one 15 ounce can of beans, etc. Dont' know if that will help you out or not. I can't imagine that it would be that hard to convert those thing to the metric system, though.

Sherry

Thanks. I probably will order it, if for nothing else than just having a cookbook by Trisha wink.gif

I bought the cookbook a week ago and made the German Chocolate Cake.... wow! Really liked the icing and I used a fresh coconut and shredded it myself since I couldn't find already fresh/frozen coconut in Ontario. Took 2 hours but it was well worth it. I am not a big fan of chocolate cake, but this one had me hooked. Now I know why Garth likes it so much.

I also made the Chicken Broccoli Casserole last night and all I have to say is YUM!!! I added just a little more sour cream and mayo with green onions and it made it just that much creamier... and it does taste great cold in the morning for breakfast.

Next on the list is the potato salad, blueberry muffins and the stuffing. Will keep everyone posted!
