1) Hard rock vs..beach style music/pop and country?
well you know I would rather have country and maybe like "margarita type" music! No hard rock!!!2) Food vs just drinks?
probably just pretzels and easy food like burgers or fries, along with beach type drinks (oops I answered the next one!)
3) What type of food if choose food?
easy stuff as it is on a beach. 3) Game room ( pool, video, darts ect)?
I think that would be a great idea, as it gives you somewhere to go when it gets too hot on the beach. We do that all the time at Mysquamicut (sp?) beach in RI 4) Day time rentals, golf carts/atv's on beach?
not my cup of tea, but you might want to have boogie boards if they are allowed on the beach. 5) free food for designated drivers along with soda/water/leomonade?
that's a great idea! Thanks.

I agree with some of Deb's answers, but I'll go along and answer it this way too.
What would intice you to visit a bar on the beach?
Well, it helps if a lot of people are alreay there, but not too crowded, of course.
1) Hard rock vs..beach style music/pop and country?
This is difficult to answer partly because you don't mention whether the beach is on the sea or on the lake. I don't think Jimmy Buffet-style music works as well on a lake beach, but maybe that's just me. Plus, hard rock wouldn't necessarily be so bad if you don't get too much into Metal. For example, Aerosmith would be good, but Metallika--while also good--would start to cross the threshhold, so to speak. I think that a good mixture of Rock and Country helps keep a place lively, keeps people interested, and brings people in. I like Country, but a place that only plays Country and mellow music all night would start to get dull, in my opinion. Yes, we do have a lot more rockabilly these days, but I still think a good mixture between Rock and Country will ultimately be more successful.
It really depends on what kind of crowd you're trying to attract. In the past, I would've said that if you want to attract the geriatric crowd, play Jimmy Buffet and other similar music. But people who rocked out to Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin in the '70s are now either approaching 50 or are past it. So...you just have to figure out what age group you're aiming for, and plan your music accordingly.
2) Food vs just drinks?
I'm kind of on the fence on this one...usually, if I go to a bar, I've already eaten or am not terribly hungry, so I usually don't eat. But, I can't really imagine a bar that didn't serve food; most every bar that I've been to has always had something, even if it wasn't much. And there's always someone who eats something because they think that it will take the edge off of the alcohol enough where they believe that they can magically drive again.
3) What type of food if choose food?
Hamburgers, fries, chips, pretzels, the usual bar fare...you could also do like some other places that I've seen, which is to try to offer some other kind of theme food, that other places in the area aren't offering, provided that it's something that you can be reasonably certain that will mix okay with the alcohol and not have people throwing up more than they would otherwise. (They may be doing that anyway from ingesting too much alcohol, but you can minimize some of it on your end.)
3) Game room ( pool, video,darts ect)?
Sure, I think that's almost a given. There's always some people who play pool; some use it as their way of meeting people.
But I wouldn't worry much about getting video games. I don't think that they're as popular as they were in the past (many people will have their own Playstation/XBox/Wii), and if you're serving alcohol, then children wouldn't be in there (and thus they won't be paying to play them).
4) Day time rentals, golf carts/atv's on beach?
Um...no. If you're serving alcohol, do you really want the liability associated with renting mobile machinery? And even if your bar didn't serve them alcohol, how do you know that they weren't served elsewhere? Are you going to give everyone who asks to rent a vehicle if they will be willing to take a breathalizer? The idea of renting is cool, but the practicality leaves something to be desired.
5) free food for designated drivers along with soda/water/leomonade?
Sounds good...you could entice them further by saying free admission (and/or no cover charge) for designated drivers.
That's my 2¢ anyway.

What would intice you to visit a bar on the beach?
1) Hard rock vs..beach style music/pop and country? I think hard rock music would be a welcome change to the standard beach bars, and would welcome a new crowd. Beach music and country music are common, this would appeal to a different audience.
2) Food vs just drinks? Food would draw in a crowd
3) What type of food if choose food? Honestly a arrangement of fish dishes with a tropical flair.
3) Game room ( pool, video, darts ect)? I say awesome idea!
4) Day time rentals, golf carts/atv's on beach? Very expensive and a huge liability since you would also be serving alcohol. I would avoid this.
5) free food for designated drivers along with soda/water/leomonade? Have them wear something to stick out as a designated driver, and with free breverages give them a free $10 meal voucher. It will save you thousands in liabitlity if something happened as a result of someone intoxicated leaving your bar.

Great INPUT so far....

......Bar would be on BEACH....in Daytona area......
Love the bit about old Rock..which is what I like..Not fond of metallica at all....As far as beach rentals for ATV/Golf Carts...Day time only...and driver must be sober of course. ATv/Cart rentals do very well down there...Beach Patrol is awsome also.
Food wise for night time hours I have been thinking Nachos, Wings, and maybe pizza..I love the sea food thought too. Shrimp, Calamari, something you can serve fried, or steamed/baked...its fast and easy as well.
Video games...so iffy...because you can cater to people with kids during day hours..night time party people...thinking like Video Poker, slot style games...
I know if I do go to a bar...I like good fun music, and a mix of Country/POP and Old Rock. I love to play pool and Darts..and when I see a Poker Video game...with that 75 cents left in my pocket...I love to try and just see how good I do.
Keep it coming folks....Cause next month, we are going BAR Hopping to see what is hot and whats not and I will be taking notes. Looking at drink specials, cover charges vs non cover, how many games available..ect ect vs food and snacks...
OHH Debbie....any bar we may open will have free Pretzels, Peanuts and Pastchios...be a mess to clean up...LOL...but its a hit also...

Well, if you just have to take the risk on the rental thing, jetskis would be a popular rental, too. Good luck.

You may want to check on the laws in that state, as far as children are concerned...most places I've been to, anywhere alcohol is served and/or gambling is allowed, one usually has to be 21 to enter. However, I have been to Florida before, and--unless the law is changed since I've been there--18-year-olds can enter a bar but not consume alcohol (provided of course they have proper ID).
