I have a question about Trisha history, we have all heard it said that Trisha was the first female country act to have her debut CD go platnium right?? But on 05/23/1989 K.T Oslin's debut CD "80s Ladies" was certified platnium.....now does this not count for her because she had two singles released before her album and they werent on a album at all? Or is Trisha the first female country act to have her debut CD go multiplatnium

I always thought Trisha was the first female country artist to have her debut album debut at number 1. I never heard the platinum thing.

Hmm, good question. Yes, I've always heard that Trisha was the first female country performer to have her debut CD go platinum. Maybe Trisha's CD went platinum first, and KT's went platinum after 1991? Not likely though...you stumped me! Also Sammy, Trisha's first CD did not debut at #1.

My understanding it was to have her first single go to #1 and have the album also debut at #1 and go on to being platinum.

My bad the album hit #2 not #1. Sorry. Then after further research Lynn Anderson and Jessi Colter both previously had #1 hits with their first singles. So I am unsure on this. Maybe AmberJ can solve the mystery. Trisha's first #1 album debut was Songbook...

Trisha was the first artist to have her debut single hit #1 since Marie Osmond's Paper Roses (circa late '60s I think).

Yes Trisha was the first woman since Marie to have her debut single go number 1 but I also think she was the first with something about her debut album...maybe first to have her debut album go MULTI platnium....I belive her debut album peaked at #3?

Or maybe she is the first to have her debut go platnium and K.T didnt count because she had two singles released that werent on her album before that?

I have solved it!!

Trisha's debut album was the first debut album by a female country artist to go platnium in UNDER A YEAR

The first debut album by a female country singer to go platnium was "80s Ladies" by K.T. Oslin. It was released in 1987 and went platnium in 1989.

Not to make my self sound like a loser BUT!!! I went back and read the book "Get Hot or Go Home:Trisha Yearwood story" and besides the fact its about Trisha the industry info in it is so awseome! Anyway they kept mentioning "Yearwood was the first female act to sell 1 million records in UNDER one year So on a hunch I assumed Oslin may have been one of the firsts I mean the woman won CMA ACM Grammy Female Vocalist the year she came out!! So maybe she did something big. I went onto ebay and searched K.T. Oslin industry promos and found a billboard advertisment congratulating her on being the first woman to sell 1 million copies of her debut album and 900,000 copies of her sophomore album after just 2 singles. So that solved it!
So my two favorites did something pretty big!!!

My detective skills! wink.gif
