Well, i'm not sure who has been to Graceland on here, but we went this past weekend for my sister's b'day celebration. We toured Graceland, the two planes, car museum, Elvis after Dark, and I forgot what else. For those who know me, yes I was in Elvis heaven! biggrin.gif Me and my husband had been to Graceland back in 94 or so maybe 95 and they've changed it where you can see so much more. I guess the favorite rooms of mine would be the livingroom (where the waterfall is) and the gorgeous chandeliers! I also love the Peacock Glass off of the formal sitting area across from the dining room. The most emotional part of the visit was seeing his jumpsuits - especially his eagle jumpsuit.

Yes, for Sirius players who listen to channel 13 where Elvis is on 24/7, I did get to meet Jim and get one of their Elvis pins.

I know I enjoyed the trip and so did my sister.

Beale street is totally cool to go see too! no words to describe the emotions......... a must see for anyone.

So that was my weekend............ biggrin.gif smile.gif

Stopped by there in November '05, on my way to see Trisha in Tunica. Loved the shag carpeting on the walls! tongue.gif

I have never been fortunate enough to go there. My first husband's aunt was a huge Elvis fan and had pictures of when she had gone to visit there. She even had ELVIS on her license plate! So I did get to see pictures of it. smile.gif But it is very cool that you got to go this past week-end! Thanks for sharing a little about it.

But the green shag carpeting??? lol

I wonder what was Elvis' fascination with mirrors? going downstairs with the mirrors on the ceiling and on the walls...... yeah, a wee bit too much. Another thing that I thought was odd was the whit monkey statues everywhere........ and the white feathery/furry bed??? lol The kitchen was nothing out of the ordinary - typical '70s kitchen... typical dining room except for the gorgeous chandelier and the chandelier going upstairs is so beautiful. I love chandeliers - guess because they were so widely used in the '70s but rarely used now. I did see in his livingroom an actual stand alone ashtray (typical of the 70's) that my mother and father had. Now that was cool!!! biggrin.gif I actually still have one - it's white marble on the bottom with brass - and crystals in the middle then more brass and then crystals a marble base for the ashtray with a brass handle. I also saw wine decanters just like my mother and father had that I have now.......which is really cool. I liked Vernon and Gladys room - purple and the wallpaper in their bathroom matched the knobs on their dresser........

I guess going there a second time around, I wasn't so much there as a "fan" of Elvis but more looking from an aspect of how the "normal man" lived - and really he had nothing out of the ordinary but the luxuries of home. Elvis was all about his fans, and longed to be loved by a very special woman who was Priscilla. Yes he may have had women in his life and Linda Thompson but 'Cilla was his love.

I liked seeing Lisa's baby bed and her toy box with dolls. I like how they took things from upstairs and put it in a room downstairs for people to see. In the Elvis after Dark place, they had the tv where Elvis shot the t.v., and personal things of Elvis which I can't remember now.

For those with Sirius satellite radio - I got one of the Elvis pins they're giving away and talked a wee bit to one of the DJ's. He started laughing when I told him my father's name is Vernal, I have an older sister named Lisa, a brother named Elvis, and we used to have a dog name Priscilla. They are some really cool dj's!!!!

What was really cool for my sister mary's b'day is our favorite song by Elvis is "If I Can Dream". Well they have a little booth where you can take pictures with different backgrounds....... well we chose the one with Elvis' gates....... and just as we had selected the background, I told mary that they were playing our favorite song (Sirius satellite) which had just started and the picture came out beautiful. She had a wonderful 38th b'day and I just had fun in Elvis land with my sissy.

I realize this is sort of off-topic, but I remember when we had a small chandelier in our living room (in the '70s). And, having had one, I think I understand why they ultimately went out of fashion. It was always a pain to clean the things, having to go over each and every one of the hanging pieces of glass to keep dust and cobwebs from building up. I would imagine that most people who still have one these days are also well off enough to pay someone else to do the tedious work of cleaning them. Maybe I'm lazy, but I wouldn't even want to spend the time doing it once a week.

yes, i'm sure that the people who have the gigantic, gorgeous chandeliers have someone who clean them!!! To clean every little teardrop crystal, every tedius piece of crystal........ not seeing them in my house........

In the new housing subdivisions being built, you can see chandeliers making a comeback...... but the houses - although over 200,000 are on top of each other - literally. No front yard and no back yard........ I guess they're good starter homes but just can't imagine living like that ~ I like having having my space to breathe........ lol

now shag carpet on the ceiling ........ hmmmm........ curtains or material on the wall or ceiling like Elvis has in his pool table room........... well...........

What I really got a kick out of is seeing the men dressed up and talking ~ playing the part of Elvis......... wink.gif laugh.gif

I do like and noticed the various age variances of Elvis fans from little kids to people in the 60's and 70's. Now that is Awesome! The closer it gets to August 16th, the more people will be traveling to Memphis........... such an awesome invidual as a man and an entertainer who put his fans first.

$200,000??? Is that the price for the houses you were talking about? I know this is off the subject, but that wouldn't get you much around this area of the country! If you want something with at least 3 bedrooms, it is over $200,000 for the price!!!

It just caught my eye, when you wrote that. Because Ted and I have been looking at houses, and flipping out at the prices. I remember buying my first house for just over 20,000. And it wasn't all that long ago either! Now you can't get a house for under $200,000 here in CT! And some areas (down near NYC) are even higher!

TRISHAFAN4LIFE
the newer houses are small though - one car garage - no land, nothing........ you can open your window and knock on the neighbor's window........ lol

It all depends on where you live in the Nashville area - we live 1/2 hour north of Nashville in a small but increasingly growing city but any farmland that was around here, these housing subdivisions are going up - and the prices are between 200 - 300,000 dollars. We bought our house back in '96 and so glad that we have land, no neighbors on top of us...... the only drawback is making the trek to Nashville and back everyday.......but I'll sacrifice living in a rural area rather than in the city! biggrin.gif Plus our taxes are lower than Nashville's too!

I've never been to Graceland, but in Tupelo,Mississippi, where Elvis was born they have restore the museum etc.,and soon there will be a big celebration of Elvis, etc. in Tupelo.
A good friend lives there, and keeps me tuned in to all these things.

With the 30th anniversary of the King's death, there are so many activities planned all around the world - and especially in Memphis and Tupelo. New releases of music - activities planned, and if you have Sirius Satellite radio - channel 13 - the Elvis channel, you can hear them talk about it.

One thing I didn't know is that they power washed the brick walls where everyone signs leading up to the gates to Graceland. There are still some signatures remaining from years before but I guess they get power wash off as much as they can.
