This past weekend we ventured out to see MAMMA MIA and I totally loved the movie. I was a huge ABBA fan when they were originally out in the '70s - had their albums and cassette tapes. I've got their best of Abba cd too.......

Anyway ~ I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes ABBA's music especially - and to take a broadway musical and turn it into a movie, I think they did a fantastic job.

Our teenage daughter was with us and she actually liked it also. Although she laughed at the '70s costumes that ABBA wore of course. I bought the soundtrack for it and actually can listen to something my daughter likes!!! wink.gif cool.gif

I love musicals anyway such as Hello Dolly, Hairspray, Rent, Grease, Oklahoma, etc..... so now I will make a point of seeing MAMMA MIA - the musical.

Oh, and make sure you stay even when the movie is over and the credits are rolling!!! biggrin.gif

My two girlfriends and I went to see it on Monday afternoon. I should mention we all take dance lessons, so we were very excited to see it. It did not disappoint! It was so much fun! None of us were around in ABBA's heyday, but we grew up hearing the music from our parents. It was really a fun movie that's appropriate from people of any age. Those '70s costumes were pretty hysterical!

Saw it Friday night with a friend. Loved it! Meryl Streep was hysterical! Christine Baranski and the other one playing her friends were a riot! I haven't laughed that much at a movie in a long time. I will be getting this one when it is released on dvd.

I've seen it twice now and each time I've noticed something different. I love the music of course - loved the music originally from the 70's.

Meryl Streep brought the movie a whole new life with Pierce Brosnan. The best friends of the mother, the daughter, the possible fathers......... it was so funny.......... I never pictured Pierce singing but I was quite impressed! wink.gif biggrin.gif

Since I've seen the picture, I've added all of the songs from my the soundtrack to my Satellite radio where you can download mp3's. So i've converted all the songs to mp3's and have the movie versions of the songs to listen to.

To the parents out there, one of the songs is "Slipping Through My Fingers" which is so beautiful!!! I never heard the song until the movie, but it is about how fast time flies raising children and then before we know it, they're getting married.

Heather ~ glad you liked it! We laughed so much too!!! Did you sit through until the very end to see all the videos?

It is a great movie - especially if you were around during the Abba days like me or for the younger people on here - my daughter is a sophomore and she loves the music and the movie. Except for the costumes......... lol I still think they're cool!!!!

too so ..... As I starts to know music back in the days Abba starts do get Fame they stop toring Sweden and I did not have any chans to see them live There music did play on the radio all the time. I have some great memories from them Wining the ESC 1974 that was a great day.

Slipping through my fingers Is from ther last record Visitors - 1981

Donnas friend Rosie is played by Julie Walters and her you have seen in Educating Rita, Calendar girls and in all Harry Potter films as Mrs Molly Weasley , She is great

When you talking about video are they in the end end after all the end credits? If so I have to go once more tongue.gif

Did you stay until Thank You For The Music played? I think that was the final song. We were one of three people left to leave the theatre. There was a picture that was shown that had the original Abba members mixed in with the characters in the movie.

Oh gees, now i'm doubting myself.......... now I'm thinking it may have been I do, I do, I do, I do........... no, I think it' Thank you for the Music. If anyone else remembers, let me know........

I had all of their albums but all I have left now are Elvis Presley's, Lonnie Mack, and various others.

I would love to see the musical now.... I loved their music in the 70's - had their 45's too........ and of course, going through my Abba's greatest hits and songs now all over - only 34+ years later.......... ha ha

Anne ~ Just noticed you are from Sweden!!! I can imagine you heard and saw more of ABBA than we had the opportunity to here in the United States!!!! How wonderful that must have been! biggrin.gif

I stayed for part of it but I didn't stay til the very end, so I missed that. I thought it was so funny with the cast all dressed up and singing in their 70s garb for the closing credits. I can't wait to get the dvd.
