The older show"Cagney and Lacey" which mostly starred Sharon Gless as Chris Cagney,and Tyne Daly as Marybeth Lacey was produced almost its entire time by Barney Rosenzweig(Gless's
husband) who has just recently released a new book he's been working on since 1989,and has released a version of "Cagney and Lacey:The First Season " on DVD including only the episodes with Sharon and Tyne. Meg Foster began it I think for one season,however,I'm partial to Sharon and Tyne,too.

Has anyone read Barney's book? I haven't yet,but I've been promised an autographed copy when/if I am ready to buy. I was just wondering what people thought who might have read it.

Yes, Meg Foster was Cagney during the first season. But Loretta Swit, later of MASH, was Cagney in the pilot. I've seen that episode, but it's been years.... from what I've read, Sharon Gless was the original choice to play Cagney, but for whatever reason, didn't take over the role until later. It'll be interesting to see if Barney's book will address why she didn't play the role from the start. I have no idea if that was covered at the time the show was on or not.

Did you see Gless and Daly reunited in recent years on an episode of Judging Amy? Even though they played entirely different characters, they still had the old magic...
