Did anyone watch Nashville Star this year? Melissa Lawson reminded me of Trisha from day one--her mannerisms, even her eyes (not the color), with a little bit of Wy thrown in. She has a fantastic voice, too! I kept waiting to hear her sing a Trisha song, but it never happened. Plus, she's not your typical blonde, tiny, 20 year old that they're packaging now.

Now that she won, she's mentioned Trisha in EVERY interview she's done. From her favorite album, to favorite singer, you name it. Love it!!! Here's one from today:

I think you’ll find that the music to come will be influenced by early Trisha, Martina McBride, anything that’s vocally challenging but at the same time still appeals to the fans.

What’s the best country album you’ve ever heard?

ML: Wow. You know what, it’d have to be the Trisha [Yearwood] album that has “The Song Remembers When” on it, and also “On A Bus To Saint Cloud.” That’s my favorite Trisha album of all time, anyway.

JM: That’s a great answer. I hate to put you on the spot there. I actually think that’s two different albums though. “On a Bus To St. Cloud” comes from Thinkin’ About You, and “The Song Remembers When” is…is it on “Hearts in Armor?” No, it’s on its own album, if I recall.

ML: Maybe it’s the Greatest Hits one that I’m thinking of. I love all of her stuff. You give me any of her albums and I am just in love. [laughter] I love her to death.

Very cool! I knew I liked her! LOL! Melissa was my fave from day one and she does remind me of Trisha and Wy. She is a good mix of the two. I hope things go well for her. Love the single. I am soo glad the right person won NS.

Wow that's so wild. I watched Nashville Star and Melissa was my fave from the start. I thought she had the best voice and I too kept hoping she would do a Trisha song. At one point, I can't think of what song it was, but I believe it was a ballad and I was disappointed it wasn't a Trisha song. I even thought she should do TSRW, cuz I think she would have done really well on it. I'd still like to hear her do a Trisha song.

I even thought she was probably a fan of Martina, cuz I saw shades of Martina and I kept thinking her voice was more suited to a Trisha style song. I'm glad to find out that she is a Trisha fan.

Other than tapping her hip when singing I can't see any real comparison to Trisha. To me, she's more like Wynonna.

If Melissa's win on Nashville Star (which I never watched) will help Nashville realize that not every great singer has to look rail-thin, then this is a step forward (IMHO).
