I just bought the book finally last night. I was looking through it, excited because much of this food is very similar to my mother's cooking, some of the recipies are almost the exact same...my mother used shorting to fry chicken and she was very adimit about that with her recipe. I am going to try Trisha's this weekend though, Peanut oil is so much better for you than shorting! Anyway, I am looking through the book, brand new pretty thing that it is...was....I dropped in the dog bowl that I just filled to rim with water! I said to myself "Mike that water bowl is too full, you are just going to bang into it with your foot, and the water will go all over the floor" I didn't listen to myself and minutes later I drop the darn book right into that bowl of water! Tell me that is not a curse telling me to not try to cook!?! I can handle my mama's I think I can handle Trisha's...I will use a book stand and move the dog bowls when i cook this weekend! It's all rinkled the pages....tip don't wipe these pages when they are wet, that will make it worse...blot and air dry....I am going to spend another 30.00 and maybe I will teach myself to not be so darn carless!

That's horrible!!!!!! I'm so sorry. I'm afraid to use the recipes, I just know I'm gonna get something on it... raw chicken juice, ketchup... something!!!! But I guess than I can consider it well loved smile.gif

I feel for you... I actually got smart and bought 2 copies of the book myself, one to use when I cook, so if I get something on it, it's ok, I still have a mint copy of it.
Try the chicken and broccoli casserole, it is divine, and the blueberry muffins are great warm with a little butter.

Actually, I got to the pages in time, and I did the right thing in the way I dried them. I didn't wipe the pages..the pages are a bit wringled or some are, but it actually is lots less damage than I thought, and it makes it my own...I am sure I will get something else on it. I love the book because it has the recipes for things that my mother made, but never wrote down recipes for, and now that her and my father have passed on, there are somethings, like fried okra, and collard greens, I would have no idea how to make without Mama here to show me, but Trisha's way of doing things is so much like moms when it comes to cooking it has helped out with that as well as providing a new cookbook to enjoy. Thanks Trisha, and I will buy another when I can find one on sale. They are still 30.00, and I am buying one for my sister for Christmas.
