Ummm... at least she was nominated in the Musical Event category.

"Another Try," Josh Turner & Trisha Yearwood
"Every Other Weekend," Reba McEntire & Kenny Chesney
"Gone Gone Gone," Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
"Life In A Northern Town," Sugarland, Little Big Town & Jake Owen
"Shiftwork," Kenny Chesney & George Strait

Are you kidding me? Taylor Swift is no more a "vocalist" than I am a brain surgeon! What has Martina McBride done this year? At least the other three I can kind of see. Trisha should have been on this list for sure! I'm really annoyed.....
Female Vocalist
Alison Krauss
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood

Well Trisha is my Female Vocalist and I so glad that Trisha/Josh was nom.

Well...the nominations were predictable and disappointing. I am glad Trisha got a nod for "Another Try"; it's such a beautiful song and deserving of a nom.
On a side note...I heard Trisha's Songbook album twice while waiting for my sister at the dentist's office yesterday. It made my wait slightly more bearable, but didn't make my sister very happy

Hmmm...this is disappointing, but not surprising. I think Trisha should have been nominated over Martina, has Martina done anything??
Also, was HHPOL eligible to be nominated for album of the year? I was really hoping she would be nominated in that category the most.

I think the noms are based on how well the album/song/single does...not necessarily how great of an album or song it is. Unfortunately.

Hey guys, I completely agree with what's been said. I just don't understand the people putting up these nominations. What the heck are they looking for? TY IS the complete pakage. Where else do you need to look? I must admit, I just recieved an upgrade in my cable, and for the first time saw the Collections program (from 2007) ok, stop laughing now.
It just reaffirms why I am a DHTYF and will be until the day I die. And probably after that 'cause the good lord does not know it yet, but I'm bringing my cd collection with me!
Stay well,
yea, TY ROCKS!

The eligibility period is from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 according to this article on CMT

Which is what makes it so frustrating because she falls in the eligibility period. The album got glowing reviews all the way around, but apparently that's not taken into consideration when voting takes place.

I understand about record sales figuring in the nominations process and I also think TV ratings figure into it too. The younger set (Carrie, Taylor and Miranda) are popular right now and they attract that all important demographic, so to have them nominated and on the show helps ratings. But I was really hoping HHPOL would be recognized in that it did get such rave reviews.

Well, all the promotion here is all about Taylor Swift........
Everyone of Trisha's songs on HHPL are awesome - yet she doesn't get honored for it......

Martina McBride was nominated because she has one of the most powerful voices in country music!!Whether she's had a busy year or not.And anyways she was touring all year and recording a new album.....how is that doing nothing!
But I think Trisha should have been nominated instead of Taylor Swift!
I mean come on

I like Taylor as much as anyone but been up for vocalist of the year when she has one of the weakest voices in country is just crazy!!Esp when you compare her to Trisha's amazing voice.....it just ain't right

In my opinion............

I actually think the new generation of country singers is moving past Martina. People are kind of over her. Powerful voice? Yes. Because she yells. Her interpretive ability does not match Trisha's, which is how we know Trisha is in this for the long haul. Also, I wouldn't say Martina has done nothing, but IMO she has not done enough to merit a nomination, esp. over Trisha (Female Vocalist of Every Year).

So we'll just agree to disagree on Martina........

Everything you've said about Martina, can be said about Taylor. Voice doesn't have much to do with it, when you take a look at who's been nominated and won in the past. Taylor (fortunately or unfortunately, depends on your taste) is what's hot right now--her fans made her that way. And she has more than anyone else, maybe even more than Carrie.
Was Martina's album in the eligibility period? Is she being nominated based on her Live cd, which (IMO) shouldn't be eligible? Or her Christmas cd, which is kind of weird to be eligible also? Cause I can't think of anything else that she's released.

Didnt "Waking Up Laughing" get released around the same time as HHPOL? I cant remember...Like Maybe a month or two earlier?

Over the past several years, it's gotten to the point that I don't watch the award shows, I think since RLW came out and wasn't given any attention, I was done. It's not about Singing talent anymore, it's about who the "flavor of the year" is...and who lables decide to spend all their money on. I'd like to remind the industry that we don't have to be 18 to enjoy good music, or Sing Great Music!
As for Martina, I like her on many songs, but do agree she likes to shout her songs...
Waking up laughing came out in April 07, 7 Months before Heaven...you'd think that would have been up for Last years CMA's. But I've never understood the eligibility of these shows. It's just to bad Heaven wasn't given the same promotion as Taylors albums.

If Waking up Laughing came out in April 07, then it shouldn't be eligible.

All I'm saying is Martina McBride is not a 4 time CMA Vocalist Of The Year for nothing!!!
