Full Version: Trisha at the Hollywood Bowl

Hello Everyone,

Fresh from the Bowl opening concert, I wanted to provide a report.

Trisha was the first vocalist to perform. And, as always, she stunned the audience.
Introducing the song, Trisha said she was representing the female inductees. (It was the tenth anniversary of the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.) Then she dedicated the song to all the guys. She performed Sammy Fain's classic I'LL BE SEEING YOU (in all the old familiar places...). True to form, Trisha honed into the lyric and gave a tender performance with a heart-centered interpretation.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Frederica Von Stude, both opera singers performed as well. And eventhough they each have extremely powerful voices, Trisha's interpretive skill shone more brightly. (Perhaps I am a little biased.)

The only disappointment...she only sang ONE song. (Roger Daltry of the WHO sang TWO!!! Unfair!)

"Mr. Yearwood" introduced the program along side John Williams. And, Josh Groban, inducted along with Dame Kiri, performed a rousing set of eclectic choices. A special treat, Dame Edna Everage made a guest appearance to introduce a duet between Dame Kiri and "Little Josh Groban".

I too was there last night, and I'll second the notion that Trisha did a solid interpretation of "I'll Be Seeing You." She seemed to model her version off the one on Linda's 2004 jazz album Hummin' To Myself, which, if it were even slightly true, wouldn't be surprising, nor a knock of any kind against her.

As for Dame Kiri and Frederica von Stade--well, we are talking about the difference between Opera and the Opry, no offense meant. And Kiri and Josh Groban were the ones being honored last night.

As for Roger Daltrey--I would suspect that Garth has probably taken a few cues from Daltrey and his band's explosive stage shows once or twice for his own (the two songs Daltrey did, by the way, were from the Who's now forty year-old [YIPE!] rock opera Tommy).
