For anyone here wondering whether it was ever true that Trisha got to meet her spiritual mentor in person....

VOILA:

This pic was featured in the June 10, 1995 edition of Billboard Magazine, and was taken backstage following Linda's performance at the Universal Amphithetre here in Los Angeles on her Feels Like Home on May 19th (it was Linda's record-breaking 54th appearance at that venue since it opened in 1972).

I don't know about anyone else here, but I really hope this isn't the last such photo of Trisha and Linda together that we see....

Trisha said that back in 1990, when she had only just gotten her recording contract with MCA, she got a backstage pass to see Linda when she performed in Nashville. She apparently got cold feet (understandably) and missed her opportunity then. For this particular L.A. meeting, she finally got to meet Linda in person and, in Trisha's own words, she felt like she was fifteen years old all over again. Linda made her feel less nervous this time around, and was wonderful to her younger protege. They've since tried to do something together, but the usual gaggle of scheduling conflicts have gotten in the way; and anyway, Linda has all but retired from recording and performing.

Still, you never know...

My friend Mark Islam and I were at that show, and we had seats not far from Trisha and her husband at the time and we had backstage passes as well, and we walked backstage behind Trisha and her husband and manager. We didn't get to see Linda backstage that night, ( I got to meet Valarie Carter though) but we did the night before in Concord CA. I didn't get to meet her, (Mark wanted to introduce me, but I didn't have the nerve to) We also saw her in San Diego a couple nights after the show in LA. We saw all her California shows on the Feels Like Home tour. We even had tickets to the second show in LA that was cancelled, which we didn't find out it was cancelled until we were backstage up in Concord and Andrew Gold told us that it was. It was great knowing Trisha was going to be meeting her idol that night, and I hope someday Linda produces an album for Trisha or they at least get to do a song or two together.

I think and hope that the most likely scenario is that Linda guests as a backup/harmony vocalist on one of Trisha's albums.

If this happens, Trisha will find out not only how generous Linda is, but how vocally flexible she can be as well. Linda has a big voice, but she can also understate as well--something that I think Trisha's more than a little aware of. cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif

And can relate to!! smile.gifsmile.gif

Definitely Linda can be subtle, and Trisha is well aware of this. Of course, some may find that hard to believe, given that her voice is as big as it is, but it's true (as in her version of "It Doesn't Matter Anymore").

And as stadtwood says, Linda's generosity knows no bounds.
