On Thursday night, I watched what was without a doubt one of the most grueling and hotly contested sporting events in recent memory in Los Angeles--the final quarter of Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and their historical East Coast rivals the Boston Celtics. It was a topsy-turvy affair to watch on TV. And somehow, the Lakers pulled out an 83-79 win for their sixteenth NBA title overall (the first five had been won in the 1950s when they were in Minneapolis), and their eleventh here in Los Angeles since 1972.

To any Celtics fans here on this forum, trust me when I say that I am not gloating about the Lakers win. Your team put up a valiant and extremely tough fight throughout this series, as they have been known to do against the Lakers over the years. This was a mighty challenge, and neither the Celtics nor their fans have anything to hang their heads over. It was a battle for the ages, right down to the final game, the final quarter, and, in truth, the final ten seconds.
So while I still support the Lakers, I wholeheartedly give my props to the Boston Celtics and their fans for going the distance.
