Today marks the 64th birthday of the Queen Of Country-Rock. Linda Ronstadt was born on this day in 1946 in Tucson, Arizona.
As much as Trisha would dearly like to duet with Linda, I'm afraid she may have a very narrow window of opportunity to do it in. After her appearance on Jimmy Webb's recently released album Just Across The River, where she and Jimmy duet on his "All I Know" (a big hit in 1973 for Art Garfunkel), Linda has all but retired from recording and performing because of health issues (she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroidits in the early 1970s, but the disease really caused her problems beginning in the early 1990s). I do hope that Linda and Trisha do get together for something before Linda really leaves the business altogether, because it would be a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
Even if she does finally call it a career, it has been a staggering body of work that is unlikely to ever be equalled or surpassed in terms of longevity, the styles she essayed, the singers she has influenced, or the number of albums she has sold (60 million plus).
Happy Birthday, Linda.
