I discussed this with the OLD FART here...since he finally finished LAW SCHOOL...Its mine turn to go back finally...smile.gif....WE talked about it in Daytona and I pretty much made up my mind...I have applied to West Florida University, been talking back in forth with a Dr. there whos also an advisor. We both came to the conclusion that my very first dream back in 1979 is still alive and well. When it keeps gnawing at you, time to do something. So I am going back to get my Marine Biology Degree. What so hilarrious, knowing my age..WFU wants my ACTs and SATs from 82-83...LMAO....think they made an error..LOL...I have the forms to send all my other transcripts to them...LOL..But if they want them,...they can have them....smile.gif...I plan to start in Jan. Most of what I need to do can be done online for about 1 to 2 years before I have to be at a school in person. Some classes I may need sooner, I can probably take over at UGA in Athens also. I also picked WFU because I still have friends 20 miles from the school, so if I had to go down there for a semester, I have a place to stay instead of being the OLD hag in the Dorm or renting an apt.....LOL...Knowing me, if I had to have a place, would have to be on the BEACH...then I would never get anything done...be playing and fishing..LMAO...

Hi Mel! I hope you have a great time going back to school! It's so cool to have a dream, and get to pursue at different times in our lives. My life has been kinda like that! Going to college, having babies, working, and more college! lol! So goodluck! And make sure that you have some time for you too in between school, hubby, & kids! OK?

You mean they had ACT's and SATs back when you were in school? wink.gif laugh.gif

I really want to go back to school but take it the courses on-line but i'm procrastinating. I need to take Visual Studio (for web design) but my love falls into my major back when I started college in '83 which was Commercial Art and then Business Administration for my minor. I just don't know what I want to be when I grow up.......... blink.gif laugh.gif I love what I do in my job - but I just feel there's something else out there I could be doing too - if that makes sense. I'll be 42 in less than 3 months and ready for a career change........ ::yikes:: Who knows.........

Congratulations on going back to school and following your dream from '79!!! It's never too late to fullfill your dreams at any age!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS MELANIE!!! Wow! I think this is SO FANTASTIC and BRAVE of you!!! YOU GO GIRL!!! Going back to school is a truly wonderful thing, and I have to say, what I learned the most from college was hardly about the text books! My grandmother always wanted to be a Marine Biologist, so it's a profession I do know a little bit about, and there's no better place to study it than Florida!!! I'm so happy for you and so proud of you! I hope you realize what a courageous and terrific thing you're doing and what a great example you're setting for your kids...that it's never too late to pursue your dreams! After being a mom and a wife for years on end, you have SO earned and so deserve this time to puruse something that's ALL about YOU!!! Yay Melanie, I know we're all rooting for you all the way! GOODLUCK!

Many Blessings,
-Sarah Liz smile.gif

ROTFLMAO...we are the same age...LOL....AND YES, I have to track down my old scores and submit them. And my Sister in Law is also going back for same but in San Fran area. And what you say totally makes sense to me. I may combine my degree's also. I can get a bachelors in Meteorology also. The Dr. I have spoken with said that would come handy if I should decide to work aboard a research ship. I laughed when he said that, I can read a radar and weather maps good without a actuall degree....LOL...but with new technology, it wouldn't hurt. Its something for me to think about.

Thanks Sara...smile.gif..long time no talk to as well. Work, Kids, and trying to go back to scholl seems to be occupying most of my time these days. I even had to threaten to quit work and talk with the BIG MAN to assure I would have all of Dylans home football games OFF. But I got what I needed...smile.gif....First game is this Saturday...smile.gif...Going to be fun, Parade that Kay marches in at 1pm, and football game at 3pm...OHHH an on top of that, The OLD man and I are in charge of Concession Stand this year. What fun...LOL...He has Fri and Sat game for Varsity and Jr's...I have Thursdays for Jr. Varsity Games. That way I get to watch all the home games, and he gets to watch all the away games..smile.gif...cool deal there!!

I Love My Airman

Congratulations.Florida is a place where there is/was a history of research
great deal of info/research . I used to do independent
research on sharks and undersea life for fun through recommended books.

I don't know if the Mote Marine Laboratory is still there.I think it was in Sarasota.
A woman,Eugenie Clark,(I think the last name is clark) has written a lot of books on various marine subjects. You might want to check out some to get a head start if you choose that subject.

Good luck! Take care!

By the way, don't worry about age.I see students from 18-80 every week. The"Common denominator" is learning.

How many credit hours are you taking? I've taken college classes since the '80s but I just don't know if I have the patience to sit in a classroom again. laugh.gif I have talked about going back to school for additional classes but to actually do it ~ well I commend you!!!! smile.gif biggrin.gif

I took shorthand I & II in high school and the other day I heard an early 20 something ask what it was......... and I learned to type on an IBM selectric typewriter..... lol Oh, and don't forget the walkman that was used on my way to get to college (I lived off campus). Think i'll skip school for a couple more years...... tongue.gif laugh.gif Just looking at my daughter's school work as a Freshman in high school, I'd have to learn Algebra, Geometry and Calculus all over again........ ::yikes::

Definitely keep us posted ~ you'll give me insight in case I do decide to go back..... wink.gif smile.gif

LMAO...so I get to be the Guinie PIG for this here experiment...ROTFLMAO!!!!!!...I am dreading all those MATH classes for sure. because I have to retake them as well. As for the credit hours taking, not sure yet to start. Still trying to get everything submitted, after a month I finally got answer and how to obtain my old SAT/ACT's...LOL...after countless emails, I finally got someone who knows a thing or 2...I have to download a form, fill it out and get scores sent...smile.gif...Once I get this done, then I can take a look at what I HAVE to re-take ( probably everything at my age)...LOL...and decide what will work together so I don't get swamped and keep an A/B average.
I darn sure won't take classes that will kill me...LOL...Like 2 that need 100% attention unless they parraelle each other and fit like a hand and glove. Make sense?...LOL...
