Let me start by saying I will be kicking myself in the butt for a loooong time. You know how I said I have been emailing back and forth with one of the djs (Stephanie) from my local station about my blog thing? Well, she gave me her cell # to call her when I got to the venue. I assumed it was just to meet with her and chat before the show, as we had never met or even spoken on the phone yet. Well, I was having a great time with the rest of the Wynutz gang and ran into one of my good college friends and we had drink together. Well, I called Stephanie at about 10 to 8 (the show started at 8:30) and she asked me where I was. Of course, we were on the opposite end of the casino. Anyway, she told me the meet and greet was going on right now and to high tail it there. I flipped out!
As for the show itself – it totally rocked! She sounded amazing, the band was rockin’ and she was extremely chatty with the crowd. Anytime someone would yell something out, she would say something sassy back. She stopped and posed for those walking up to take pictures and acknowledged many of them - including Jeff! She shook hands with most of the front row and someone handed her a huge bouquet of flowers, which she held for the entire next song – very cool. At one point, someone passed her a note, which she read to herself. After she read it, she looked up, made a face and laughed and threw it over her shoulder. I would love to know what it said. She also asked for how many this was the first time seeing her, and when practically the entire crowd screamed, she was like Oh my God are you kidding me? Where have you been all these years. Then someone shouted waiting for you to play here and she said good answer. Too funny.
From the opening notes of "Mama" and "Grandpa," the crowd was nuts. In fact, she had Don Potter restart the infamous intro lick to Grandpa a couple of times. I thought it was too cool Don was out playing with her. The crowd was singing every word to "Mama" and when she got to the really long pause before the first “Mama he’s crazy,” the crowd kept singing along. She loved it and finally kicked into the chorus. Same thing with "Grandpa," the crowd sang the entire song with her.
Two of my personal faves “Only Love” and “Heaven Help My Heart” were awesome. She also sang the classic “At Last” – brought the house down! “I Can Only Imagine,” "Love Can Build a Bridge," and "She Is His Only Need" were beyond beautiful. Of course, she saved “No One Else on Earth” for the encore. I ran down to the front of the stage with the rest of the gang and got some great shots I will upload at work tomorrow to share with everyone.
Absolutely one of the best shows I have seen. I had a blast at dinner with the Wynutz gang. Being from Cajun country, it was really hilarious to see their reaction to the Cajun cuisine at the seafood restaurant. They were like, what is gumbo and etoufee. I just told them it was good and to try it. Hehe!
Even though I will be bummed about missing the meet and greet for a long time, I still had such a blast at the show and hanging out with fellow Wy fans. Oh and super bonus, Jeff had fun with the gang and enjoyed the concert as well. He just wished she would have sang a couple more of the old Judds songs that he liked.
Oh and Sandi, we all did do the wait by the bus thing, however, the security out there was extremely rude and mean and told us all to leave, we backed up further and further but he still made everyone leave, so we didn't get to see if she would come out or not. They did say she came out after the Thursday show - just my luck. Uhg! Oh well, Miss Wy will just have to play here again really soon - Jeff even said he wouldn't mind seeing her again. Now, if only I could get him to like Trisha as much as me - hehe!
Hope you enjoyed the review. Will definitely do one for my new blog during the week some time. I'll keep everyone posted.
